Scuba Certification in Georgia

Georgia might not be as well known for scuba diving as some of the states surrounding it, but there are plenty of scuba diving attractions in Georgia. Shark Barge Reef, Table Top Reef, and Gray’s Reef, which is a National Marine Sanctuary, are some of Georgia’s top scuba attractions. Divers of all skill levels will be able to find a great spot to dive. Some dive sites may have special requirements or regulations, or may require divers to be scuba certified to dive at a particular site. Make sure you check site-specific requirements before planning a dive.

Scuba Diving Requirements in Georgia

Georgia does not mandate that divers have their scuba certification. However, for safety reasons, it is recommended that all divers obtain their certification. This helps ensure that you stay safe while diving, and that those diving with you will also have an experienced and well-trained dive partner.

Georgia does have some laws and regulations for scuba divers and those operating vessels around divers:

  • Both scuba divers and snorkelers must use a dive flag
  • In state waters, divers must use a red flag with a white diagonal stripe that is at least 15″x15″
  • In federal waters, divers must use an Alpha/Alfa Flag, which is a blue and white flag
  • Vessels operating near dive flags must stay at least 100 feet away from the dive area
