New Jersey is one of the most, and by some standards most, densely populated states in the United States. The good news for divers is that The Garden State is also densely populated with plenty of great scuba diving sites, especially for shipwreck enthusiasts. The wreck of The 120, the wreck of the Mohawk, and the Point Pleasant Railroad Bridge are some of New Jersey’s most popular dive sites. Scuba Diving Requirements in New Jersey

In New Jersey, you are not required by law to be a certified diver. However, obtaining your scuba certification can help ensure you stay safe and have an enjoyable dive. The scuba certification program will endow you with the necessary skills and knowledge you need to become a diver. Some scuba companies will require you to be certified before transporting you to certain dive sites.

New Jersey does not require you be certified to dive, but the state does have a few regulations for divers and boaters:

  • Divers must not surface more than 25 feet from their dive flag
  • Boaters and other vessel operators must stay at least 50 feet from dive flags
