Scuba Certification in Kentucky

Kentucky is most widely-known for its fried chicken, bourbon, and horse races. Those things are not the only way to have a good time in The Bluegrass State, however. A scuba diving trip is a great alternative for anyone looking for something interesting to do. Some of Kentucky’s best diving sites are Falling Rock Quarry, the Kentucky Dam, and Blue Springs Resort/Pennyroyal Quarry. Divers of all skill levels will find something to draw them to Kentucky. Some of the state’s dive sites may have special requirements or regulations, so be sure to determine these before planning a dive.

Scuba Diving Requirements in Kentucky

In Kentucky, you are not required to be certified to go scuba diving. However, certified divers tend to have access to more dive sites. Some companies may not allow uncertified divers to go to certain dive sites via their transport. You are not required to, but going through the certification process will help you become a better, safer diver.

There are only a couple of regulations in place to govern diving and the operation of vessels near divers:

  • Divers must use a dive flag that is at least 12″x12″
  • Divers must stay within 50 feet of their dive flag when surfacing
  • Divers must use the red and white Diver Down flag
  • Vessel operators must stay at least 100 feet from any dive flags
