When most people think of Nebraska, they think of corn, not scuba diving. However, The Cornhusker State has some wonderful options for divers. Kea Lake and the Sandy Channel are two of the most popular dive sites in Nebraska. The latter site is even sometimes used by local companies for scuba certification dives. Some of Nebraska’s dive sites may have restricted access or may have special regulations governing their use. Make sure to check each dive sites regulations for your own safety before diving.

Scuba Diving Requirements in Nebraska

Nebraska law does not require divers to have their scuba certification before diving. However, it is always a good idea, even for experienced divers, to go through the scuba certification program. Why? The certification program will teach you all the necessary skills and safety precautions to ensure you have safe dives.

Although Nebraska does not require you to be scuba certified, there are a few regulations for divers and boaters on the books:

  • Divers must use a red and white Diver Down flag while diving
  • Divers must stay within 150 feet of their dive flag
  • Boaters and other vessels are required to stay at least 150 feet from all dive flags
