Scuba Certification in Oklahoma


Oklahoma is not usually the the first name people think of when they think of states for scuba diving. That does not mean that Oklahama has no decent dive sites. In fact, The Sooner State has some great diving sites! Stevens Gap, Lake Murray, and Lake Elmer Thomas Recreation Area are some of Oklahoma’s best dive sites. Some dive sites may have special restrictions governing their use, or may have water conditions divers should know about before diving. Scuba Diving Requirements in Oklahoma

Oklahoma law does not mandate that scuba divers be certified. However, most experienced divers will tell you that the training the certification program provides is essential. Some companies that provide diving charters and transport may even require divers to be certified or to dive with one of their certified dive guides.

Oklahoma does have a few requirements for both scuba divers and those operating vessels around divers:

  • Divers are required to display a red and white Diver Down flag or the blue and white Alpha Flag
  • Divers are required to stay within 150 feet of their dive flag
  • Boaters and other vessels are required to stay at least 150 feet from dive flags
