Scuba Certification in Tennessee

Tennessee is most well-known for Nashville and the Country Music Hall of Fame. Many people aren’t aware, however, that The Volunteer State has a number of great scuba diving sites. A few of the most popular dive sites in Tennessee include Jeff’s Quarry, Loch Low-Minn Quarry, and Ross’s Landing. There is plenty to choose from, no matter what types of dives you prefer. Some of Tennessee’s dive sites may be restricted or have dangerous conditions, so be sure to check the latest information for each site you plan to dive at.

Scuba Diving Requirements in Tennessee

In Tennessee, you do not need to be scuba certified in order to go diving. Most divers who have experience will tell you the certification program was their first step to become a diver. The reason divers recommend obtaining your scuba certification is clear: the certification program teaches you the safety precautions you need to make in order to stay safe. It also gives beginners the hands-on experience they need to learn to dive.

Tennessee has several other regulations for divers and boaters operating near divers:

  • Divers are required to use a red and white Diver Down flag when diving
  • Divers must surface within 50 feet of their dive flag
  • If diving at night, dive flags must be illuminated
  • If diving from a boat, the boat is required to display a blue and white Alpha Flag
  • Alpha Flags used on vessels must be at least 18″x24″
  • Vessels are required to stay at least 50 feet from dive flags
